Is there a registration fee to participate?
No. There's no registration fee to participate in the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone.

Can I register a friend on-site on May 4th?
Yes! We encourage you to bring your family and friends on May 4th in support of a great cause!

Do I have to raise pledges to participate?
No, but Kids Help Phone relies on fundraising events like the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone as well as on its many corporate and individual donors for the funds required to be there with the immediate support and hope troubled and abused kids need and deserve.

If you choose not to raise pledges, we'd greatly appreciate it if you'd make a donation to Kids Help Phone.

How do people receive tax receipts for cash, cheques and/or online pledges?
For pledges made by cash or cheque, a tax receipt will be issued by Kids Help Phone after the event according to the information provided on the pledge form. Those who pledge a walker online will receive an electronic tax receipt within 24 hours.

Do I get a tax receipt if I pledge myself?
No. If you pledge yourself, that money counts toward your incentive prize and you will not receive a tax receipt.

Tip: If you want a tax receipt, why not pledge someone else and have her/him pledge you?

How much of the pledge money will go to Kids Help Phone?
100% of the pledge money raised will go toward helping Kids Help Phone provide the immediate support that troubled and abused kids need and deserve. All direct costs from the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone are covered by sponsors and by the support of volunteers in each community who organize and run the event.

To whom do I make out my cheque?
Please make all cheques payable to Kids Help Phone.

What do I do with the cash I collect?
You have three options:

1. Take the money to any BMO Bank of Montreal branch and they will process your contribution (any time between March 17 and May 16). Get your pledge form stamped by the teller or get a deposit slip and remember to take your pledge form with you!
2. Process your offline pledges online by paying with your credit card.
3. Take any pledges you have collected with you when you register on Walk day.

No matter what you decide, remember to bring your paper pledge form and/or you online summary with you on Walk day.

I don't want to bring cash on Walk day; can I process my pledges online?
If you don't want to bring cash on Walk day, you have two options:

How much money do you expect the Walk to raise?
In 2007, the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone raised $3 million thanks to the support of more than 20,000 participants.
In 2008, we hope raise even more to help ensure Kids Help Phone can continue to be there by phone and online with the support and hope troubled and abused kids need and deserve.

What are Kids Help Phone’s administration costs?
Kids Help Phone has always managed to keep its administration costs below the nationally accepted rate of 10%. Our current administration costs are 6%.

Can I wear roller blades or ride my bike?
For safety reasons we recommend against the use of inline skates or bicycles on the Walk route. Please check Local Walk Details for information on route terrain.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes, but please consider the fact that there will be large numbers of people and small children at the event. If you do bring your dog, ensure that it is on a leash at all times and that any necessary safety measures are taken (e.g. muzzling). Check Local Walk Details for additional information concerning dogs at your local Walk.

Can I bring a stroller or wagon?
The Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone is a fun event for the whole family! Feel free to bring a stroller or wagon with you on Walk day; however, we encourage you to check Local Walk Details for information about terrain.

Does the route accommodate wheelchairs?
We encourage everyone to participate! Most of this year's Walks take place on paved roads or walkways in locations that are wheelchair accessible, but some do contain terrain that may make the use of a wheelchair a little challenging. Please check Local Walk Details for further information.

Will there be activities for children?
Yes! All sites will have entertainment for young people that may include clowns, face painters, music and more.

What food will be served?
Lunch, snacks and water will be served at all sites. Selection will vary in each site and if you have allergies or special dietary requirements you may want to pack some snacks, just in case.

Will there be bathrooms and baby changing areas?
Yes, there will be bathrooms at every site and some sites will have a baby changing area.

Do I have to complete the entire Walk route?
No, but we encourage you to walk as far as you can. Remember: each one of your steps in the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone will help ensure Kids Help Phone can be there to provide the immediate support that troubled and abused kids need and deserve.

Will the Walk take place rain or shine?
The Walk will take place rain or shine or snow or sleet or … you get the idea. Please check your local forecast before heading out on Walk day and dress appropriately.

How do I get to the Walk in my community? Is there parking available? Can I use public transit?
Please check Local Walk Details for information on parking and public transit routes.

Are there any special prizes for students?
In addition to all of the individual and team incentive prizes, students are eligible for great student and student team prizes. Check the Students’ Lounge for more information.

If I’m a student, do I have to walk with a team? Do we all have to be students?
There are lots of ways to get involved in the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone. You can become a part of a Student Team (three or more student walkers), you can join a Best Buds Team (two student walkers), or you can walk as an individual.

100% of Best Buds and Student Team participants must be registered as students to qualify for student prizing.

Can students earn volunteer hours through the Walk?
Yes, students can earn volunteer hours through the Walk. However, hours are awarded at the discretion of individual schools, so students should check with their school to ensure the Walk qualifies. For more information on volunteer hours, check out the Students’ Lounge..

Is there a team challenge?
Yes. When you register your team online or using a paper pledge form, you're automatically eligible to win the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone Inspiration Award.

What is the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone Inspiration Award?
Register your team online or use a paper pledge form for a chance to win the Bell Walk or Kids Help Phone Inspiration Award. This special plaque recognizes the top fundraising team in each Walk site for their achievement and for "being there for kids" in their community and across Canada. All pledges must be submitted on or before May 4, 2008 to qualify.

What is the WestJet Hope Award?

This special prize recognizes the top national fundraiser for his/her achievement and commitment to Kids Help Phone. The winner receives a pair of tickets to any WestJet destination in Canada. Pledges must be submitted on or before May 4, 2008 to qualify.

What is the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone Courage Award?
This plaque will be presented to the top individual fundraiser in each Walk site as our way of saying thank you for your commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and youth in your community and across Canada. Pledges must be submitted on or before May 4, 2008 to qualify.

Many organizations have offices in different cities. Can a team walk in different locations under the same name?
Yes! Please feel free to recruit team members in different locations.

Remember: all team members must know the name of their team and/or team captain when they are registering. This is the only way we can ensure that all of your team's pledges are counted toward the team's total.

Can people pledge my team or do they have to pledge an individual walker?
If someone prefers to pledge your team instead of pledging an individual, that’s ok! Please note that pledges made to a team do not count toward individual incentive prizes.

Can people who work or live in a city where there is no official Walk set up their own event?
If you would like to walk in a location where there is no event taking place, please contact the nearest Kids Help Phone regional office to discuss your ideas.
